When to plant green beans (bush) in Zones 6–9, spacing, and what to know before you commit ground.

When to plant

Green beans (bush): warm-season, will not take a frost. Plant when soil reaches 65–85°F. Dates below are averages worked out from each zone's frost dates — check your own field.

Setting it up

Direct-seed in the field. Space plants 4 inches apart in rows 24 inches apart, about 1 inch deep. Expect roughly 55 days to first harvest.

Field notes

Do not soak seed — beans rot easily. Successive plantings every 2 weeks until 60 days before first frost.
