University budget sources
Every cost figure on this site comes from a budget published by a state university extension program. Below is each budget we use — 44 budgets from 16 states, covering 1996 to 2026 — with its crop, year, printed total cost per acre and a link to the original document. Open the source and check the numbers yourself; if a figure here doesn't match the university's document, the university is right and we want to know.
Older budgets are labeled with their year and shown with a today's-price range on the cost range calculator. Budgets are planning estimates, not what any farm actually spent.
